Gastronomy: Delicious Discoveries
Valencia is renowned for its culinary heritage, and the star of the show is undoubtedly paella. This iconic dish, traditionally made with chicken, rabbit, and local beans, can also be enjoyed as a seafood version near the beach. Fideuà, a noodle-based cousin of paella, is another local favorite, especially for seafood lovers. For a quick bite, try esgarrat, a salad of roasted red peppers and salted cod, or the hearty all i pebre, a rich stew made with eels and potatoes. Don’t forget to sample "horchata", a refreshing drink made from tiger nuts, paired with fartons, a sweet, elongated pastry. For a more substantial drink, "agua de Valencia", a citrusy cocktail made with cava and orange juice, is the go-to. On each spot of the audio guide, we'll give you the nearest recommended restaurants according to Google's users opinions.
Transportation and getting around the city
Getting from the airport to the city center is super easy. You can hop on the metro (Lines 3 or 5) for a direct ride into the heart of the city in about 25 minutes. If you prefer buses, the number 150 connects the airport with the city at a lower price but takes a bit longer. Taxis are also an option, and since the airport is only 8 km from downtown, fares are reasonable.
Once you're in the city, public transport is really efficient. The metro and buses run frequently, and if you plan to use them often, getting a "Bonometro" card for discounted multiple trips is a good idea. Valencia is also quite walkable, especially in the old town, so exploring on foot is a great way to enjoy the sights. For longer distances or beach trips, buses and trams work great.
Taxis are widely available and fairly priced, but for a laid-back option, you could also rent bikes or scooters, since the city is bike-friendly with lots of dedicated lanes. If you want a broader view of the city, the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus is a popular choice. You can buy tickets directly at the bus stops or online for convenience.
In terms of practical tips, the local currency is the euro, and while most places accept cards, it’s handy to carry a bit of cash for smaller purchases or in case a café prefers it. Valencia uses Type C and F electrical sockets (the standard two-round pin plugs), so if you're coming from outside Europe, bring an adapter.
